1. Look for a grid panel from dashboard.
2. Open Panel Settings and add conditional format on string fields. Apply to should be set to Cell. Sample below:

Panel refreshed but condition set on string fields did not take effect.

Conditional format should work on string fields even Apply To is Cell or Row.
